A welcoming Tuscan farmhouse ideal for a large family of group of friends.
Location and Surrounding Area. Villa Pettirosso dates back to the 17th century and is located in magnificent woodland just outside the picture-perfect town of Siena. It is within easy reach of the wine-producing Chianti hillsides, the medieval hilltop towns of Montalcino, Montepulciano and the more famous Florence, Lucca and Pisa.
Montepulciano is a stunning hilltop Renaissance town, famed not only for its beauty and car-free centre but also for the quality of its fine wines. The Cantucci family, for example, has been creating fine wines since the 1700s and is considered one of the founding fathers of the exceptional red wine, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Another sought-after red wine, the Brunello di Montalcino, has been produced in the hills around Montalcino since the early 14th century, partly due to the fact that Montalcino has the warmest and driest climate in Tuscany.
Lucca has often been voted one of the world’s most desirable cities to live in or visit. It is perhaps most famous for its thick, 16th century ramparts which encircle the city and were restored in the 19th century to create a wide, tree-lined walkway. You can walk or cycle on top of the whole length of the walls and discover the wonders of the town within. There are pretty cobbled streets, ancient piazzas, gorgeous churches, glorious renaissance buildings, markets and countless local restaurants, bars and trattorias. Lucca was the birthplace of the Italian opera maestro, Giacomo Puccini and the town often hosts international opera as well as classical music events and rock concerts.
For gold aficionados, the international Royal Golf La Bagnaia features an 18-hole course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., which harmoniously blends with the local landscape. You can gaze out over Siena from every hole. The golf course has special Green fee discounts for Villa Pettirosso.
If you’re looking for total relaxation, the nearby Buddha Spa centre has special offers for guests at Villa Pettirosso. The spa contains an abundance of natural, thermal, mineral pools and there is a trained team on hand to help you choose treatments.
Villa Pettirosso is about an hour’s drive from Florence international airport and about two hours from Rome, Pisa and Bologna international airports. Siena is about 15 minutes away in the car, Florence and Montepulciano about an hour and Lucca and Pisa about 2 hours away.
The Property. This enchanting Tuscan farmhouse sleeps up to ten guests in five, glorious, double bedrooms, each with its own spacious, private bathroom. The bedrooms all have wood-beamed ceilings, terracotta floors, plenty of wardrobe space and far-reaching views across the unspoilt countryside. Two of the bedrooms are on the ground floor and other three are on the first floor. The first floor also offers its guests an extra sitting room, ideal for a quiet afternoon spent reading or catching up on the newspapers.
The ground floor has two, large, sitting areas with cozy armchairs and an open fire. The dining room is close to the kitchen, which features all modern conveniences for preparing delicious Tuscan dishes. The kitchen can be used for holding cooking classes and features an extra-large oven. There is also an extra bathroom on the ground floor. All of the rooms feature exposed, wooden beams on the ceilings and soft, natural colours on the walls to help create a peaceful ambience.
Villa Pettirosso has a splendid, shady pergola for outdoor dining. There is a handy barbecue and wood-fired oven if you fancy trying your hand at making bread, focaccia or even a round of pizzas with your grilled meat, fish or vegetables.
The chic infinity swimming pool offers breathtaking views over the Montagnola Senese countryside and has plenty of sun loungers for lazing away your days in the Italian sunshine. The gardens are divine with sweetly scented Mediterranean bushes and lots of romantic corners to hide in.
